Father’s Day Weekend at Glacier Basin – June 20, 2026
As Father’s Day weekend approached, I wanted to spend a day doing what brings me the most joy—being in the mountains and reconnecting with nature. On June 20th, I headed to Glacier Basin in Mount Rainier National Park for a beautiful early-summer hike beneath one of Washington’s most iconic peaks.
The trail began in the cool shade of old-growth forest, following the historic route once used by miners more than a century ago. As I gained elevation, the views gradually opened to reveal rushing creeks, snow-covered slopes, and the magnificent glaciers that continue to shape this landscape.
One of the highlights of the day was reaching Glacier Basin itself. Surrounded by towering peaks and the impressive Inter Glacier, I paused to take in the scenery and reflect on how fortunate we are to have places like this so close to home. The meadows were beginning to awaken with wildflowers, and marmots could be seen enjoying the warm sunshine among the rocks.
For me, Father’s Day has always been about gratitude—gratitude for family, health, friendships, and the opportunities to explore the natural world. Standing beneath Mount Rainier, I felt a deep appreciation for the many adventures shared over the years and the many more still waiting ahead.
The Glacier Basin Trail is more than just a hike; it’s a journey through history, geology, and some of the finest alpine scenery in the Pacific Northwest. It was the perfect way to celebrate Father’s Day weekend and a reminder that some of life’s best gifts cannot be bought—they are found on the trail.
