National Trails Day 2026: Every Trail Tells a Story
On June 6, 2026, outdoor enthusiasts across the country will celebrate National Trails Day®, a day dedicated to exploring, appreciating, and protecting the trails that connect us to nature, adventure, and one another.
Every trail tells a story. A winding forest path can lead to discovery, a mountain trail can build resilience, and a simple walk through a local park can provide peace and renewal. Trails are more than routes through the landscape—they are gateways to health, friendship, learning, and stewardship.
As our communities become increasingly connected to technology, National Trails Day reminds us to reconnect with something timeless: the natural world. Whether you are hiking a rugged mountain route, biking a scenic rail trail, paddling a water trail, or enjoying a quiet nature walk, every outdoor experience strengthens our bond with the places we cherish.
Join the Celebration
Across the United States, organizations, parks, and volunteers will host a variety of events, including:
- Guided hikes and nature walks
- Trail maintenance and stewardship projects
- Family-friendly outdoor activities
- Wildlife and native plant education programs
- Community gatherings that celebrate public lands and outdoor recreation
Many National Forests will also offer fee-free recreation opportunities in recognition of National Trails Day.
A Call to Stewardship
The trails we enjoy today exist because generations of volunteers, advocates, and conservationists cared enough to build, maintain, and protect them. National Trails Day is an opportunity not only to enjoy these places but also to give back.
Pick up litter, volunteer for a trail work party, introduce someone new to the outdoors, or simply practice Leave No Trace principles. Small actions create lasting impacts.
At the Community Nature Station (CNS) CoOp, we believe that every outdoor adventure is an opportunity to build stronger communities, foster environmental stewardship, and deepen our connection with nature. Together, we can ensure that future generations will experience the same beauty, wonder, and inspiration that trails provide today.
So lace up your boots, gather your friends and family, and head outdoors on June 6. Explore a new trail, revisit a favorite one, and celebrate the incredible network of pathways that connect people, communities, and nature.
The trail ahead is waiting. Where will it take you?
