The Community Nature Station (CNS) CoOp is a reward based organization to empower, encourage and appreciate its members’ time and expertise. The rewards can be in various forms from issuing a certification or badge of accomplishment to public recognition , introducing their expertise or professional services related to the goals of the CNS or being given some goods or services. here are some key benefits by example :

Member Eligibility & Responsibilities
Membership is open to any individual over the age of 18 who supports the mission, goals as below:
- Submit membership application: Prospective members should submit an application to join the organization, providing necessary information such as name, contact details, and relevant background.
- Pay annual membership due: Members should pay an annual membership fee, which helps support the organization’s activities and events.
- Submit Waiver Agreement: All members should sign the org general waiver including liability, privacy policy and code of ethics.
- Participate in voting surveys and meetings: Members should actively participate in the organization’s decision-making process by participating in surveys and attending meetings.
- Participate in members’ social gathering: Members should attend social gatherings organized by the organization to promote community building and social bonding.
- Pay the cost of attending events: Members should pay the cost of attending events organized by the organization, including trips, workshops, and other activities. Discount may be applied to the outstanding members or champions.
- Take a role in planning for attended events: Members should take an active role in planning events by volunteering to help with logistics, coordination, and other necessary tasks.
- Being a volunteer with a minimum h/w depends on a role: Members should be willing to volunteer their time and resources to help support the organization’s mission and goals. This may involve taking on a specific role within the organization, such as serving on the board of directors, working as an administrator, or serving on a committee. Members may also act as consultants or sponsors for specific events or activities.
Member's Profile
Overall the Organization aka club is supported by two groups of members as below:
- CoOp Member : Active members of the CoOp must meet eligibility and qualification according to the bylaw, amendment or policies. Members may select to join at least one of the following committees or roles:
- Board of Directors
- Advisory Board Member
- Sponsor Member
- Admin and Operation Committee (AOC) Member
- Activities Leadership Committee (ALC) Member
- Activity Group Member
- Non CoOp Member :
A public member of the CoOp who does not pay the annual fee nor participate in events regularly but will demonstrate support to the organization in one of the following indirect ways or any capacity:
- Guest Member
- Social Follower Member
- Volunteer Member
CoOp Member:
Board of Directors (BOD)
The Board functions to set the overall direction of the CoOp. Active member who is qualified and elected on the Board according to the bylaw and meets additional qualification listed in the bylaw amendment.
Advisory Board Member
An advisor provides specialized knowledge, skills, and expertise to support the club’s overall mission or ad hoc project. . Consultants attend meetings and events, collaborate with Board Members, and may support fundraising efforts.
Sponsor Member
A ‘sponsor’ is an individual or business who provides financial, social or technical or in-kind support to the cooperative organization.. The organization will appreciate the sponsor publicly (or anonymously per their request) and the members of the AOC may track member relations to build a sponsorship list. While they do not have voting rights or official duties on the Board of Directors, they play an important role in helping the organization expand, and to achieve its annual goals.
Administration & Operation Committee (AOC)
Admin and Operation Committee Members are volunteers who support the day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the cooperative organization. They manage the organization’s website and social media accounts, organize events, communicate with members, and ensure smooth functioning of operations. They plan and organize events related to the organization’s mission and goals, communicate with members to keep them informed, manage membership records, coordinate with other volunteers, and support the work of the Board of Directors. Overall, they play an important role in keeping members informed, planning events, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the organization’s operations in tasks related to (but not limited to) software services, social media marketing, clerking, archiving, and member relations. These members must be approved by the BOD and fulfill the responsibility of each role according to the job duties documented in the Org’s policy.
Activity Leadership Committee (ALC)
The Activity Leadership Committee (ALC) of volunteers is responsible for overseeing the Organization’s activities as services, approve the leaders of the activity, develop the general rules and policies applicable to the all activities workgroup and approve the specific rules proposed by each leader of the Activity Group (AG). This team includes the chairperson from every permanent workgroup, at least one member from AOC, the President or a designated director. The President leads the ALC, ensuring its effective functioning. While ALC doesn’t have control over the Organization’s funds, it can propose budget requests to address operational needs.
Activity Group Member
Activity Members are volunteers who are enrolled in one or more activities, support the ALC, and respect the general and special rules for the recreation group . They actively participate in events with “Micro-Tasks” such photography , fact checking, navigation, etc, attend meetings, discussions, and decision-making related to the activity’s events or training.
Non-CoOp Member
Guest Member
A ‘guest’ is a non-cooperative member who is invited to participate in a specific event or activity without having to pay any fees. They do not have access to any of the materials or benefits that are offered exclusively to cooperative members. They may be invited to participate in events ( up to 3 per year) by a CoOp member to try out the cooperative before deciding to become a full member, or as a way to involve friends or family members who may be interested in the cooperative’s activities. For some activities they must sign a Liability Waiver Agreement.
Social Media Follower Member
A ‘follower’ is a non-cooperative member who engages on social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. They do not have access to any of the materials or benefits that are offered exclusively to cooperative members. Follower Members may be interested in the cooperative’s activities and events but have not committed to becoming full members.
Volunteer Member
A ‘volunteer’ is a non-cooperative member who is assisting and supporting the organization on an event basis either financially, giving their time or donating or sharing equipment .
