About Us
The idea for Nature Station was rooted during 2015-2019 when I was actively hiking with various hiking meetups and mountaineer.org. During this time, I enjoyed adapting to the Northwest culture, achieving a work-life balance, and exploring the beautiful region in all seasons.
However, I soon realized the gap between myself and my family and friends, who had not been exposed to nature as much and wished to join me on my journeys. It was shocking to discover that some people had lived in the Seattle area for over 30 years without ever visiting the majestic Mt. Rainier, even as tourists in the summer!
I also learned that the level of commitment required by professional clubs or even small meetups was not feasible or culturally ingrained for many people. On the other hand, I always wanted to have meaningful trips to nature—learning about and caring for it. I felt a deep appreciation for the volunteers who maintained the trails and the National Park rangers who worked tirelessly to keep the parks accessible for us.
Needless to say, numerous opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities and step out of our comfort zone led me to believe that exploring new places, engaging in adventures, learning from each other, and honing our skills requires a supportive community.
This realization led me to found Nature Station in 2020 as a social group for the small community of Iranian-Americans who were traditionally disadvantaged in experiencing the nature of the Northwest.
Of course, 2020, due to COVID-19, was not the ideal time to start an outdoor-based group. So, we began with a podcast to educate the community about the natural beauty of the area. As life was getting back to normal, we started organizing various outdoor activities to engage a wide range of people, especially those new to the area or needing group motivation. Since then, we have accomplished the following:
- 400+ educational posts about Washington’s nature
- Dozens of urban adventures in the Seattle area
- Many celebrations of our heritage, national, and global days
- Hundreds of hikes from easy to moderate and difficult levelÂ
- Numerous group camping trips across the WA Cascades
Although we started small and targeted specific communities, our core idea was to form a collaborative atmosphere that values volunteerism and fosters a sustainable, trainable community of like-minded people who participate as both producers and consumers. We simply believe in people’s abilities to learn and teach, to care and give. Everyone has personal skills that can be leveraged and empowered.
Therefore, to enable the power of communities and pursue the initial idea eventually in 2023 Nature Sation was registered as a Non-Profit Cooperative Social and Recreational club to be The station run by the people for the people toward nature!  Â
